This blog is an outlet for my writing on music in its widest possible sense.

I have written regularly on jazz and improvised music for premier US site All About Jazz since November 2013 (see http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/contributor_articles.php?id=9002.) and ran UK blog Kindofjazz.com through a year of development and its first 18 months or so of live publication prior to being forced out by a betrayal of trust. A couple of articles that first appeared on that site are here to keep them available.

This site is looser, picking up bits of writing on all sorts of great music that have crossed my path. The received wisdom on blogs is to have a narrow focus that you can explain in the title, but I prefer a wider perspective since, in real life, my record collection is not like that and my guess is neither is yours.

Instead I’m proposing to continue to be wilfully eclectic –  Morrissey may turn up next to D’Angelo, or Laura Nyro might be followed by Chic or the Blue Aeroplanes. There may well be jazz, improv and other music too – but lets work things out as we go shall we?

Only rule is that I won’t review it if I don’t like it. Life is too short to spend time on music you don’t like, or weren’t in the mood for, when there is so much good stuff out there.

If you want to get in touch about future reviews try philb.reviews@gmail.com.

  1. Love the lyric you used for the blog title – Blondie are another band that doesn’t get played enough these days!
